Hilde Fålun Strøm is an Arctic advocate, explorer, and citizen scientist based in Svalbard Norway. Alongside friend and fellow explorer Sunniva Scorby, she made history in 2020 as one of the first two women to overwinter in the extreme High Arctic of Norway. Together they founded Hearts In The Ice, a platform for social engagement and education around citizen science and climate change.
Hilde’s experiences have ranged from hunting to dogsledding, months at remote huts, ski expeditions and well over 300 polar bear encounters. She is an authorized Svalbard guide and sea captain, and an ambassador for Polar Bears international, an organization of passionate conservationists dedicated to securing a future for wild polar bears.
With over 25 years of experience exploring the landscape and its inhabitants, she is an eyewitness to climate change in the Arctic and an inspirational voice calling for its protection. In her own words, “I feel so connected and at home here in the Arctic. Finding ways to protect this fragile, harsh land seems natural to me. We protect what we love.”
Her book "Climate, Psychology and Change" will be available for pre-order in Spring 2024
