Maria Clara Parente
Climate Journalist | Researcher | Film Director

Maria Clara Parente is a Rio de Janeiro based artist who uses climate journalism, film, and storytelling to explore pathways towards decolonial futures.

Her academic work and research focus on how fiction can communicate the climate crisis, investigating women-led narratives that challenge anthropocentric views. This expertise informs her journalism on climate justice and indigenous rights, her collections of poetry, as well as her award-winning film projects.

Maria is the founder of the Regenerar Project, a global community committed to reimagining the relationship between humans and nature. She directed the feature film Regenerar: Possible Paths on a Damaged Planet (2022) and the documentary series What is Emerging. She is currently directing a film featuring Yoruba philosopher Bayo Akomolafe, titled Times are Urgent: Let us Slow Down.

Through creativity and collaborative, Maria is helping us to see possible ways forward that bring us into deeper relationship with the earth and our shared humanity.
