John D. Liu is a highly accomplished Chinese American filmmaker, ecologist and researcher. With a diverse background, he has made significant contributions to the field of ecology and ecosystem restoration. In January 2015 John was named Visiting Fellow at Netherlands Institute of Ecology (NIOO) of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences.In 2017 John Liu founded Ecosystem Restoration Camps, a worldwide movement that aims to restore damaged ecosystems on a large scale.
John is also an ecosystem ambassador for Commonland, working on large scale ecosystem restoration in different continents, a thought leader and supporter of Mustardseed Trust values, fostering community led projects worldwide and a board member on the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration and co-lead of the food challenge together with the UN Youth task force
As a filmmaker and through his documentaries and projects, he raises global awareness about the importance of ecological restoration and sustainable land management and has inspired a global movement of everyday people who are reversing ecological destruction across six continents.
